| We Are | Rich in tradition, St. Martin of Tours Parish School has been educating children for more than 150 years. We are the longest serving school in Franklin and the only Catholic school in Franklin. Established in the mid-19th century as the parish school for Catholic German immigrants in the St. Martin community, the history of our school is linked with the history of the surrounding community. | | We Serve | Families of all faiths appreciate our rigorous curriculum presented in a caring environment. We enjoy a diverse student body. Many of our families reside in Franklin and Muskego. Our enrollment includes students from southern Milwaukee County, eastern Waukesha County, and northern Racine County. | | Student Transportation | Bus transportation is available without cost for many Franklin residents and some Muskego residents. | | Fees and Tuition | Each student is assessed a registration fee of $100 (due February 1 or at time of registration), a book fee of $250 (due August 1 or at time of registration), and tuition. Financial assistance may be available to those with need. Contact the school office for information. | | Our Schedule | The school day begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 2:20 p.m. In the morning, all students are delivered by school bus or parent-arranged transportation to the west gym door. There they remain with their classmates - supervised by the on duty teacher - until each class is escorted to its classroom by the homeroom teacher. Students may enter the gym upon morning arrival as early as 7:00 a.m. All students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to work at the start of the school day. Primary school students enjoy a mid-morning recess break. They are served lunch at 11:00 a.m. from which they are dismissed to their afternoon recess. Middle school students are served lunch at 11:20 a.m. from which they are dismissed to their afternoon recess. At the end of the school day, children using parent-arranged transportation are dismissed from the south church entrance under the supervision of the teacher on duty. Cars form an orderly line and move forward to the sidewalk on which dismissed students wait for pickup near the church exit. Children using bus transportation are dismissed from the west gym entrance under the supervision of the teacher on duty. The school office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. when school is in session. The office is open on a limited basis during the summer months. Call the school office for information. Emergency closings due to weather or unforeseen circumstances are handled according to established policy. | | Our Facilities | | Located in the historic St. Martin Settlement on South 116th Street in Franklin, our well maintained school consists of two connected buildings. One building is dedicated to primary grades, the technology lab, and library. The second building houses the middle school, art and music classrooms, and school offices. Our full-sized gym, well equipped science lab, and cafeteria are located in an easily accessible adjoining building. Surrounding the school buildings are recently remodeled play equipment, and spacious basketball, soccer, and baseball facilities. | | Technology | Though tremendously proud of our long legacy, we educate our students for future success by embracing 21st Century learning. Our classrooms have interactive whiteboard technology and networked computer workstations dedicated for student use. Our technology lab contains networked computer workstations (a personal login and workstation for each student) configured with current hardware and software. Our science lab is well equipped. | | Hot Lunch | A nutritious, hot lunch is prepared in the school’s kitchen daily and served to students in the adjoining cafeteria. The cost of lunch is $2.75 per day. Lunch menus and order forms are distributed the month before they are served. Families determine on which dates they wish their children to receive hot lunch for the next month and send the monthly order and payment to the school office. Children not receiving hot lunch bring a cold lunch. Milk is available for purchase by the semester and is ordered before the new semester begins. Both hot lunch and milk are available to students only on a pre-ordered, pre-pay basis. | | Academics | In an average class size of 15 students, we present the core courses of phonics, reading, grammar, literature, math, history, geography, and science. Special courses include Spanish, technology skills, art, music, and physical education. We emphasize speaking, writing, and critical thinking. Teachers provide many opportunities to practice skills, and students are assessed in an authentic manner whenever possible. Resources and activities for gifted students are available at all grade levels. Middle school students may compete in selected academic contests within the Milwaukee area. Eligible, academically gifted middle school students may be selected to participate, at no cost, in high-school level work instructed by teachers of area Catholic high schools. | | Activities | We offer an athletic program, scouts, student council, band, orchestra, Future City engineering design competition, and opportunities for community service. Students participate in a Christmas concert and spring concert. Annual events – Halloween celebration, Breakfast with Santa, and Secret Santa Shop - are enjoyed by our families. | | Faculty and Staff | | Our principal holds a master's degree in educational administration. All of our teachers are Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certified and have a bachelor’s degree with additional professional coursework, graduate coursework, or a graduate degree. They are certified in their core subject (math, science, language arts). All recently completed credit-based coursework in developing individualized learning plans. Our principal and most of our teachers have served St. Martin of Tours Parish School for ten years or more. We are fortunate to have abundant spiritual support. The Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ) support St. Martin of Tours Parish School through their on-site ministry. | | Accreditations/Memberships | St. Martin of Tours Parish School is fully accredited and presents state-approved curriculum. | | Extended Care | St. Martin of Tours Parish School provides families with supervised, on-site activities for their children. Opportunities to provide support are available at school, at home, at athletic or other activity site. Grandparents play a special role in the lives of their grandchildren. All grandparents of St. Martin of Tours Parish School students become members of our Grandparents' Circle. Members are kept informed of the school's activities. They are invited as our guests to several events throughout the school year including the traditional Grandparents' Day (special friends may attend as well!) | Student Success | Our students go on to great academic, athletic, and leadership success in high school, college, and in life. Our recent graduates have attended these high schools. |
