Assessment

Student assessment occurs in a variety of ways, including standardized testing, teacher-created assessments, curricular evaluations, daily observation, homework, and class work which becomes part of the each student's portfolio.

Many opportunities are provided for formative assessment in which student performance is observed and feedback is provided in a timely manner. Summatize assessments are planned activities that are communicated in advance to parents and for which students are prepared.

Authentic assessment of performance is used whenever possible. Faculty strive to offer assessments that are observable, measureable, valid, and fair.

Assessments in Which Your Child Will Engage

Curriculum

Curriculum presented in the classroom is assessed through written chapter tests, unit tests, essays, and quizzes. This testing may also be performance-based, such as an oral presentation, speech, or demonstration.

Iowa Basic Skills Test

Annually during the first two weeks of March, students in grades three, five and seven participate in this standardized testing program.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP®)

MAP® is a computerized assessment that adapts to each student’s individual academic level. It measures the achievement of each learner by comparing the results of his or her unique academic assessment completed at the beginning of the academic year with the assessment completed at the end of the school year.  Specific areas of strength and weakness are noted by teachers and shared with families. Personalized learning plans are crafted using the results of this assessment.

Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination

Annually in November, students in grade 8 participate in this testing program. The purpose of the standardized tests is to identify student learning trends, identify levels of skill, and produce information which will aid in the evaluation of the school curriculum, rather than the individual student.
